FWCF calls on government to implement faster, more accessible educational assessments for “pandemic babies”
Fi We Children Foundation (FWCF) is calling on the Education Ministry to implement faster and more accessible educational assessments- for children experiencing developmental and learning challenges linked- to the Covid-19 pandemic and other public health crises.
The foundation’s call follows a newspaper report highlighting growing concerns that “pandemic babies” are contributing to increased demand for inclusive classrooms.
An inclusive classroom allows students with and without learning differences to learn together.
FWCF youth policy committee member Tasheera Thompson says regardless of the cause, children requiring additional support should not be left waiting months or years for assessments and placement.
The foundation is also calling for the expansion of affordable special education schools, particularly in rural communities.
