An elderly man perished in a house fire in York, St. Thomas, yesterday.
His identity has not yet been released.
Deputy Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Kevin Haughton said the Morant Bay Fire Station responded to a call of a house on fire at approximately 6:17 P.M.
He said firefighters used a chainsaw to gain entry to a concrete house.
The first responders reportedly found a burnt-out mattress with the body of a man in it.
The police were summoned, and the body was removed to the morgue.
Investigations are ongoing.
