Dr. Maureen Mullings Nelson defeats Dr. Darien Henry to become President-elect designate of the JTA
Dr. Maureen Mullings Nelson is the new President-elect designate of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA).
At the end of yesterday’s vote count for the election held last week, Dr. Mullings Nelson was victorious over the only other candidate for the post, Dr. Darien Henry.
According to the JTA, 11,275 votes were cast, with Dr. Mullings Nelson receiving 6,967 votes, while Dr Henry received 3,947 votes.
Dr. Mullings Nelson will be officially proclaimed at the 62nd Annual Conference scheduled for August 17 to 19, at the Ocean Coral Spring, Trelawny.
In her victory speech, Dr. Mullings Nelson pledged to be a leader who listens and serves.
She said she will continue to advocate for better wages, improved benefits and stronger support for teachers at every level.
