PM Holness calls for collaborative effort to ensure energy security in Caribbean

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has called for collaborative effort to ensure energy security in the Caribbean region.

Dr. Holness is on an official visit to Suriname where he participated in the Suriname Energy Oil and Gas Summit and Exhibition.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr. Holness noted the strides made by Suriname in its energy sector including its refinery.

He noted plans for Jamaica’s energy sector to include improvements at its own refinery, Petrojam.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Jamaica’s own exploration into the oil and gas sector with the discovery of promising, potential systems off shore and seeking to learn about the industry from Suriname.  

Dr. Holness said the Caribbean needs to work together to strengthen energy security.
