Jamaicans are being urged to unite in the fight against human trafficking, stressing that public awareness must be matched by decisive action to protect the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and Peace and Chairperson of Jamaica’s National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons (NATFATIP), Ambassador Alison Stone Roofe, made the appeal.
She was speaking at a church service in St. Andrew yesterday in observance of Trafficking in Persons Week, which is commemorated annually during the last week of July.
Ambassador Stone Roofe highlighted the 2026 United Nations theme, “Trapped Behind the Scam: Exposing and Disrupting Human Trafficking.”
She warned of the growing threat of traffickers luring victims with fake job offers before forcing them into online scamming operations and other forms of forced labour.
She said protecting vulnerable people requires the collective vigilance of every citizen.
Ambassador Stone Roofe assured that Jamaica continues to strengthen its response to human trafficking through deliberate policy measures and coordinated action.
