The Post and Telecommunications Department (Jamaica Post) says all mail items destined for countries within the European Union (EU) have been suspended until further notice.
The suspension which came into effect yesterday, does not apply to Great Britain.
Jamaica Post in a social media post says the measure became necessary, following changes to the European Union’s customs regulations, which remove duty free de minimis treatment for all non EU member countries effective today July 1.
This affects processing of all mail items from several countries, not just Jamaica.
Jamaica Post says in light of these developments, it has been left with no choice, but to suspend acceptance of mail destined for the EU, while it works closely with its international partners to address this matter.
