JTA President Mark Malabver reiterates that percentage of funding Jamaica budgets for education cannot be compared to other countries
President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association Mark Malabver has reiterated that the percentage of funding that Jamaica budgets for education cannot be compared to other countries.
He initially made the statement in relation to a recent report from the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI).
The report outlined that while enough funds are being spent on sectors that cater to children, the greater concern is the outcomes.
Mr. Malabver said the report compared Jamaica to countries such as Finland and Singapore.
The president again argued that Jamaica does not spend as much as these countries on education, so the comparison is flawed.
He also referred to another study in 2014/2015 which also highlighted the need for equity in providing financial support for schools .
