Man fatally shot and firearm seized during alleged confrontation with police in Thornton, St. Elizabeth
A man was fatally shot and a firearm seized during an alleged confrontation with police following an operation in Thornton, St. Elizabeth last evening.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Dwart Ferguson otherwise called “Dwayne” or “tata”, a resident of cassia road in Thornton.
Reports are that about 9:45 p.m., police carried out a targeted raid in the area.
Ferguson reportedly ran inside a house on the approach of the police and refused to open the door.
The police then breached the door and observed Ferguson holding a firearm.
Reports are that Ferguson was instructed to drop the weapon but he refused and pointed it at lawmen.
The cops took evasive action and opened fire, hitting Ferguson.
The wounded man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One pistol containing five rounds of ammunition was reportedly seized.
