Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Michael Belnavis, has assured that steps are being taken to mitigate or minimise flooding across vulnerable communities as the hurricane season progresses.
He gave the assurance during a hurricane preparedness press conference hosted by the St. Ann Municipal Corporation yesterday.
Mayor Belnavis pointed out that communities such as Cave Valley, Moneague, Pedro Valley and areas in Limehall are prone to flooding.
He underscored that with the passage of Hurricane Melissa last October, they have intensified drain-cleaning operations to tackle flooding.
In the meantime, he emphasised that community members continue to be sensitised regarding evacuation procedures and flood risks.
