National security ministry to review and pursue mechanisms to effectively manage sex offenders
The national security ministry will actively review and pursue mechanisms to effectively manage how sex offenders are dealt with.
Portfolio minister Dr. Horace Chang said decisive action will be taken and the team has been directed to continue to undertake work in this regard.
He made the comments today, while joining in the island-wide condemnation of the rape and murder of 10 year old Shani Coke in Toy, Trelawny, on Tuesday.
Dr. Chang noted that the police have been directed to deploy all necessary resources to ensure a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation.
He said the ministry remains fully committed to the safety and dignity of the nation’s children and stands firmly with the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) in its efforts to support the grieving family and protect children across Jamaica.
He noted that Jamaicans must remain resolute in the commitment to justice, accountability and the creation of communities where every child can grow up safe, protected and free from fear.
