Prime Minister Holness says island’s security forces must have discipline and respect in use of weapons

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says the island’s security forces must have discipline and respect in the use of weapons.

He made the statement during a tour of the Kingston Central Police Division.

According to Dr. Holness, the island’s security forces must find a way to be seen as protectors.

While acknowledging that citizens can sometimes frustrate members of the security forces, the Prime Minister urged officers to remain disciplined and professional.

Dr. Holness explained that if the security forces can remain professional, the island’s children will not only look up to officers because they are carrying a gun, but because of how officers conduct themselves.

The Prime Minister believes this will steer children away from becoming criminals and will seek to be law-abiding citizens and public servants.
