Some civil society groups again call on Gov’t to establish new joint select committee to review and modernise Access to Information Legislation

The Government is again being called on to act on its repeated commitment to establish a new joint select committee to review and modernise Jamaica’s Access to Information Legislation.
The matter was highlighted in an open letter, from over 20 civil society groups and interested parties, which was submitted to Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon today.
Spokesperson for the coalition, Executive Director of Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) Mickel Jackson, says the Act has remained unchanged for 24 years, despite a built-in requirement for periodic review and recommendations from a 2011 joint select committee that were never implemented.
She said the groups are recommending that the new joint select committee be set up by September.
