Government does not own the Support Jamaica website – ODPEM’s Alvin Gayle

The Government does not own the Support Jamaica website which was used to coordinate relief donations following Hurricane Melissa.

The revelation came from Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Commander Alvin Gayle during Wednesday’s sitting of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Support Jamaica website was launched after Hurricane Melissa to mobilise emergency relief, coordinate national recovery efforts and facilitate donations to the Government’s disaster response.

By February 2026, approximately $1.4 billion had been collected through the platform.

Commander Gayle disclosed that the website remains owned by the private developers who created it and that they retain access to donor information including the names of donors and the amounts contributed.

He was responding to PAC Chairman Julian Robinson, who raised questions about ownership of the platform and who has access to the information on it.
