People's National Party (PNP) candidate for North West St Elizabeth, Patricia Scarlett-Forrester, has said that she is "elated" to represent the people of the constituency as she bids to become the first person to win the seat for the PNP since 1993.
While on a tour of the constituency on Wednesday with Scarlett-Forrester, Opposition Leader and PNP President, Mark Golding, also expressed confidence of the party's chances of wrestling the seat from the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), which has held it since 1997 through JC Hutchinson, who is not seeking re-election.
General Elections are due by September of this year.
Scarlett-Forrester, the Principal of Bisgah Primary School in the parish, said North West St Elizabeth is ready for change.
"Time has come for the people to have some change," the educator declared.
"Time has come for some work to be done in North West St Elizabeth, and I know it is only the People's National Party that can get it done," Scarlett-Forrester told reporters.
Golding expressed confidence that the PNP will perform well on election night, whenever the polls are called, in its Region Five area, especially in the parishes of St Elizabeth and Manchester.
Turning to Scarlett-Forrester who he described as a newcomer to representational politics, the PNP president said she has entered the political arena in a "very committed way".
He elaborated that, "I think she will be a great representative of the people".
In admitting that the PNP has not won North West St Elizabeth in many years, Golding echoed the party's campaign slogan, 'Time Come', projecting confidence that the party can win the seat.
"That is a seat that we haven't won for many, many years; North West (St Elizabeth), but you know, time come," he stated.
The JLP is to confirm whether Principal of Lacovia High School, Andrew Morris, will become its candidate for the next polls, this after he won what the party labelled as a "sounding" last weekend in the constituency.
If selected, it means two educators, more specifically, two school principals, will battle to become the next Member of Parliament for the constituency at the coming polls.
