Four gunmen are now in police custody after a dramatic standoff between them and the security forces during an armed robbery on Sunday afternoon in the town of Spaldings that is on the border of Clarendon and Manchester.

Interestingly, some of the suspected robbers took to social media platform TikTok after they barricaded themselves inside a building.

At a later stage of the hours-long standoff, one of the men was seen with a heavily bandaged arm, while another had blood running down his chest.

In a section of the video, the suspected robbers are heard pleading with the police to spare their lives after they were reached.

One of them said he had been accepted for college, while another said he had brothers who are "police and soldier".

A police officer was reportedly shot and injured during an earlier firefight with gunmen at a business establishment in the rural town.

Preliminary reports are that about 2pm, the local police were alerted to a robbery that was being carried out at a supermarket in the town.

On the arrival of law enforcers, gunmen opened fire at them, resulting in a shootout.

The gunmen then barricaded themselves inside a building for hours.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) were called in by the police to assist with de-escalating and containing the situation.

Around 5pm, the gunmen were arrested and taken into custody.

It is understood that two of them are being treated at hospital under police guard.

Four firearms, including an AK-47 assault rifle, were seized by the police after the dramatic incident.
