UWI, Caribbean School of Medical Sciences to consider applications from Jamaican students in Cuba
The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Caribbean School of Medical Sciences have indicated their willingness to consider applications from Jamaican medical students in Cuba.
This was disclosed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kamina Johnson Smith.
There have been growing concerns about students’ safety due to the ongoing crisis in Cuba which has been exacerbated by intensified United States sanctions, including a fuel blockade.
Speaking at this morning’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Minister Johnson Smith said both the University of the West Indies and the Caribbean School of Medical Sciences have indicated that they have available space to accept students.
She noted that admission of students remains the responsibility of the universities under their own accreditation and matriculation standards.
Mrs. Johnson Smith said the placement of students will depend on their academic record.
She said students who are having difficulty accessing their academic records should reach out to the embassy so they can make the necessary inquiries.
