Opposition leader Mark Golding is calling on National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang to reject the notion that there is no need for cops to wear body-worn cameras during certain operations.

Golding’s call comes amidst renewed discussions about the devices, with Dr. Chang arguing that they will pose a threat to the lives of police officers in some situations.

Addressing a meeting of the People’s National Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) in St. Mary on Sunday, Mr. Golding said the level of police shootings remains unacceptable.

Arguing that the Opposition supports the police for bringing down the murder rate, he said there is no principled objection to the use of such devices by the police.

According to Mr. Golding, it is accepted internationally that the use of body-worn cameras ensures accountability.
