The National Blood Transfusion Service (Blood Bank) is re-evaluating its donor recruitment process and moving to establish a Life Savers Club.

This is aimed at recognising frequent voluntary donors and encouraging them to serve as ambassadors for blood donation.

State minister for health Krystal Lee gave the update yesterday while speaking at the signing of a multi million dollar contract for refurbishing works at the National Chest Hospital blood collection centre in Kingston.

Ms. Lee noted that the hospital collects about 22% of the country’s total supply annually.

She emphasised the importance of shifting Jamaica’s donation culture away from replacement towards repeat donations.

She also announced plans to establish 3 additional blood-collection centres within the next two months.
