The Government is fast-tracking the implementation of the 16% fare adjustment for operators of public passenger vehicles.
Operators have long been calling for the additional 16%, and those appeals have intensified since the increase in fuel prices due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
A 35% fare increase was approved by the government, with 19% implemented in 2023.
However, operators have not received the remaining 16%.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz acknowledged that the sector is under strain and noted that the increase is under consideration.
He was making his contribution to the 2026/2027 Sectoral Debate.
