The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) issued over 3,000 licences and registration permits during its fee waiver initiative.
The waiver, which ended yesterday, was implemented by the NFA to ease financial burdens and support the sector’s recovery following Hurricane Melissa last October.
The initiative targeted registered fishers in Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, Trelawny, and St. Ann who suffered significant losses during the hurricane.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, Chief Executive Officer of NFA, Dr. Gavin Bellamy, said fishers from the affected parishes took advantage of the initiative.
Dr Bellamy urged fishers to keep their licences and registrations up to date.
