Opposition renews call for Gov’t to reconsider increasing age of consent from 16 to 18 years old

The Opposition has renewed the call for the Government to reconsider increasing the age of consent from 16, to 18 years old.
Opposition Spokesperson on Education and Youth, Damion Crawford repeated the call during his Sectoral Debate presentation in Parliament yesterday.
Citing data which indicated an average of 6000 pregnancies per year, Crawford said teen pregnancy is a problem in Jamaica
Mr. Crawford said children must be protected and urged the Government to take the necessary steps in this regard.
