A woman died after being hit by a motor vehicle in Ocho Rios, St. Ann this morning.
Dead is Claudette Thorpe of Petersfield district St. Mary.
The driver of the car has been arrested.
Reports are that about 6:10 a.m. the driver of a white Toyota Mark X motor car lost control of the vehicle.
The car swerved erratically along the roadway, climbed the sidewalk where Thorpe was walking, hitting her.
The vehicle then hit a wooden utility pole and came to a stop.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene.
Thorpe was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Relatives of the driver later handed him over to the police.
