The Fi We Children Foundation has called for appropriate accountability and action where abuse, negligence, and inadequate supervision can be established in relation to the injury of a one-year-old Haitian child while in state care.
The Foundation noted that the reported injuries raise questions about the circumstances in which they occurred and if appropriate safeguards were in place to protect the child.
FWCF’s Youth Policy Committee chair, Sabrina Barnes, noted that children placed in the custody of state-authorised institutions are entitled to protection and supervision.
Ms. Barnes called for a review of relevant evidence, including CCTV footage, incident reports, medical records, staff records, and any other documentation concerning the child’s placement and care.
