Thirty-year-old Jerome Campbell, a labourer of Queen’s Drive, Montego Bay, St James, has been charged with burglary, assault at common law and possession of a prohibited weapon relative to an incident in his community on Sunday, March 24.
Reports are that about 9:30 pm, a man was at home when Campbell, armed with a handgun, broke into and entered the man’s bedroom using a side door.
Campbell was reportedly observed searching the room, and was confronted by the man who, in fear of his life, used a machete to inflict a chop wound to the intruder.
Campbell then ran and made his escape on foot in the surrounding area.
A report was later made to the police and, acting on information received, Campbell was arrested by law enforcers later that day.
On Tuesday, April 2 he was charged by the police.
A court date is being finalised for him.
