Gov’t wants apology from Opposition following incident with parliamentary mace
A call has been made for Opposition Leader Mark Golding and Member of Parliament for South West St. Andrew Dr. Angela Brown Burke to apologise following an incident involving the parliamentary mace on Tuesday.
The appeal was made by Government Senator Marlon Morgan.
During the recent sitting of the lower house Dr. Brown Burke, touched the mace.
She was formally named by House Speaker Juliet Holness, who ruled, that she be removed.
Dr. Brown Burke was suspended from the remainder of the sitting.
Senator Morgan argued that the behaviour displayed by the opposition sets a poor example for school children.
He said Dr. Brown Burke and Mr. Golding must apologise to the House Speaker, the Parliament and all Jamaicans for what he described as a disgraceful and grossly disorderly conduct.
