A 22-year-old higgler has been slapped with several charges following an attempted armed robbery at a business establishment on Studio One Boulevard, Kingston 5, last August.

He is Zidane Barnes, otherwise called ‘Willie’, from Torrington Park, Kingston 12.

The young man is facing two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of malicious destruction of property, assault at common law, four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that about 5:15pm on August 17, 2023, Barnes and another man, posing as customers, entered the establishment.

The men reportedly brandished firearms and pointed it at a woman as they tried to rob her, before opening gunfire at other persons.

When the shooting subsided, the complainants were found with gunshot wounds. They were assisted to the hospital, treated and released.

Two Thursdays ago, on April 11, Barnes was arrested and charged following an identification parade.

A court date for him is being finalised, the police said.
