Amidst celebrations over recent reports that Jamaica has been named the most peaceful country in the Caribbean, the Opposition People’s National Party remains cautious about the ranking.

The publication of the 2026 Global Peace Index by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has been welcomed by the Government and some members of the public.

However, spokesperson on National Security and Peace, Fitz Jackson, told IRIE FM News that the IEP’s report did not include all Caribbean nations.

He also pointed to the fact that the island was also ranked the 70th most peaceful place on the planet.

Jamaica’s overall score was 1.919, which is a slight decline from last year.

This caused the country to drop one spot in the rankings for 2026.

The Spokesman also questioned the Government’s stance that Jamaica was headed in the right direction regarding crime.
