The Galina housing development project in St. Mary is expected to deliver about 360 units.
The houses are being built through a partnership between the National Housing Trust (NHT) and the Henan fifth construction group Jamaica limited.
The $1.9 b project will comprise one and two-bedroom detached units, as well as serviced lots.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said the housing development represents a strategic investment in people.
He was speaking yesterday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project.
Priced at $3.8 m for serviced lots and up to $14 m for units, Dr. Holness noted that they are meant to be affordable.
Dr. Holness says the Galina housing development is part of a national strategy to address the housing deficit in the country.
