Attorney-at-Law Isat Buchanan says he will be representing the family of the woman who was fatally shot by the police in Granville St. James on Sunday.

He made the disclosure in a release to the media yesterday.

Mr. Buchanan who is also Opposition Spokesperson on Youth and Human Rights said like many Jamaicans he watched the circulating videos and listened carefully to the growing public concern about the incident.

According to Mr. Buchanan, at the centre of this matter, is a simple but fundamental principle – the right to life is sacred.

He said the Constitution guarantees that right to every Jamaican and no state authority is above its protection.

He said this issue is not only political or public in nature but deeply personal to grieving families who continue to seek answers from the State.

He said while the Constabulary Force has already interdicted the officer involved and INDECOM has launched an investigation, the Jamaican people deserve more than procedural announcements.

He called on National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang to clarify his recent public comments questioning the practicality of body-worn cameras in certain operations.
