The House of Representations has approved the imposition of 15% General Consumption Tax (GCT) on Airbnb and other short term rentals, effective April 1, 2027.
The measure was approved early this morning.
Prior to approval, Finance Minister Fayval Williams presented the Amendment of Schedules Order which also outlined changes to the duty concession on motor vehicles.
She reiterated that the taxes are part of the Government’s fiscal response to the economic environment following Hurricane Melissa.
Her opposition counterpart, Julian Robinson, sought clarification on the tourism activities which will be taxed.
Mrs. Williams confirmed that short term rentals, including Airbnb, are included.
