Renowned track and field coach Vincent Stephen Francis, has died.
He was 64 years old.
Francis who was ailing for sometime, died yesterday.
He was the Co-founder and Technical Director at the MVP Track and Field Club.
In paying tribute to the iconic coach, Sports Minister Olivia Grange said Francis guided many of Jamaica’s legendary and most accomplished athletes to stardom.
She said his contribution to building brand Jamaica is immeasurable and worthy of high praise.
Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesperson on Sports, Wavell Hinds said the country lost one of the principal architects of Jamaica’s rise in international athletics.
He said Mr. Francis leaves behind a legacy that few can match.
Mr. Hinds added that Francis’ commitment to excellence, his relentless pursuit of high standards, and his confidence in Jamaican talent transformed not only individual athletes but the entire landscape of track and field in the country.
