Jamaica Post (the Post and Telecommunications Department and Postal Corporation of Jamaica) has been awarded the coveted Postal Security Gold Certification from the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The recognition follows a rigorous assessment of Jamaica Post’s security protocols, positioning the nation’s postal network among the elite globally for mail safety, and making Jamaica the third country in the region to achieve the milestone.

“Jamaica Post’s attainment of the highest postal security certification aligns with our mission to ensure the utmost safety of all mail items in our care,” said the entity’s Chief Executive Officer and Postmaster-General, Lincoln Allen.

He affirmed the organisation’s dedication to international security obligations.

“This achievement underscores our commitment to strengthening stakeholder relationships and enhancing confidence in our postal service,” he added.

Leading up to the certification, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted by UPU specialists at Jamaica Post’s Central Sorting Office (CSO) in Kingston, from November 27 to December 1, 2023.

The assessment examined adherence to UPU standards essential in mitigating risks associated with mail transportation, including explosives. These include Security Standards S58 (General Security Measures) and S59 (Office of Exchange and International Airmail Security).

Deputy Director General of the UPU International Bureau, Marjan Osvald, said the standards are crucial in enhancing global postal security.
